Endings

Endings

Sweat beads upon flush skin
bale wagon wobbles across the hay field
trying to devour hay upon the trays
slowly sways upon uneven ground

Rattles of old chains and sprockets
whirring and spinning in sync with PTO RPM
gray smoke leaks from beneath frame
as 45 years shows upon IH red

Another season draws to a close
when last cutting is stacked and tarped
mountains of hay waits
for winter's fierceness to be revealed

Poem 19-248B
#highplainspoet, #westernnebraskthoughtsandlife, seasons, farming, hay, nebraska, tractors
