Clings

Clings 18-111Z

Wetness glues to blades of grass
Buds iced white
Snow in Spring enhancing color
White frosting painted on green
Vibrant yellows of daffodils

Searching

Searching 18-119Y

Today I went searching
Over yonder hill
Into verdant dale
In search of you

I had let you wander
Now you wonder
Will I pursue you
'Til I find you

When I come
Will you open arms
Will you invite me in
Again to share your garden

Transitions

Transitions (18-118Z)

Untangle roots
Earth soft in hand
Preparation for receiving
Raspberry bush

Slowly cover
What's uprooted
Soil embraces
Transplanted life

Thoroughly soak
Tendrils grab
Familiar earth
In new place

Reclaim

Reclaim (18-117Z)

alluvian beauty
our journey
meandering thoughts
together who we are

worn places
grooves cut
in and out
together we repair

Saturation

Saturation 18-116Z

Smell of dirt as
 Caught in rain
   Earthen dampness hangs
     Sporadic sprinkles first
      Tantalizes nostrils
     Wind driven rain
   Yearnings aroused
  Connecting primal past
 Desire muddy and slick
Slippery passion entwine

Altars

Altars (17-364B)

From one generation to the next
legacy, mantles, and treasures pass
some are holy, worthy of carrying
others need let go, offered back to Father

Altars of fathers' that need torn down
other altars need restored
altars dormant for generations
rebuilt, restoring rightful worship

Surrender what's left behind
explore, ask questions
is it worthy and holy
to bring forward

What's better yet
build the altars together
of what's holy and worthy
to pass from one generation to the next

There are no guarantees of tomorrow
am I satisfied with legacy leave
if relationships aren't healthy
then no one to carry forward all else

Thirsty

Thirsty (18-008A)

Dry on the inside
desire unquenched
A drink of living water
grace that satisfies

Empty cup
press to lips
Dinged up
fill me up

Rythm

Rhythm 18-060B

Moon crests horizon
gloriously full as sun fades
clouds soon hide both
darkness settles on high plains

Flocks of geese noisily pass above
returning to the river at dusk
recall sounds of wings in motion
hear the air move as they fly overhead

Rhythm of seasons
passing from one to the next
robins returned first in mid-January
meadowlarks returned this week

Morning filled with singing
twilight filled with pheasant calls
as they fly low over prairie
seeking cover for night

as walk at dawn's rise

their melody rises inviting Spring

Covered

Covered (18-053C)

Oh the relief
body relaxes
mind at rest
heart satisfied

Covered in Father's grace
His love doesn't waver
I'm His favored
broken and reconciled

His steadfast lover for me
My defender when I fall
loving hands raise me up
kissing all the wounds

His breath soothes
closes all the wounds
words that salve the heart
peace that calms my fears

Alive today in a new place
shift from orphan
to receiving welcome as a son
healing with each step

18-051A

18-051A

Flag half-mast
flaccid as it hangs
Mourning a tragedy
masking the heart

Looking outward all the while
roots buried deep internal
Wrapped around calloused hearts
of men who are isolated and orphaned

18-028B

18-028B

Fear's foothold in the mind
lack of trust in Love divine
Exposes heart's belief about Father
sorrow over life given to lies

Mind races to worst
instead of rest in Him
Peace flees in moment
learn and change

Forgive us Father
for not honoring You
Who You are
missed in the moment

Forgive self
Accept grace
Look up
Advance

Morning wakes with troubled heart
Fitful sleep leaves exhausted
Sorrow clouds eyes
Storm roils from depth inside
Tempest rages in the beast
Surf surges mercilessly pounding thoughts
Invisible and adrift in internal hurricane

He Sings Over You

He Sings Over You (18-109Z)

He sings over you
In the darkest of nights
His melody lights
He sings over you

He sings over you
When fear wraps tight
His voice makes it right
He sings over you

He sings over you
In inner tumultuous fight
His voice soothes with might
He sings over you

Old Oak

Old Oak (18-098Z)

Fragileness in motion
Each movement calculated
Aware of handholds
Balance unstable

Once rock steady
No longer rooted
Now ankles sway
Easily uprooted

Begrudgingly submit
Walker steadies
What once came easy
Now exhausting

Thin dry skin
Humbly accepts help
Help humbly given
Navigate new roles

Rub lotion on
Seasoned bark
An old oak
No longer bends

Prairie Blessing

Prairie Blessing 18-101Z

In the tall grass of late Spring
Brushes against my waist
Lush green of high plains

Visit this memory often
A place of calm
Father walks beside

Quietly, side by side
Wind rustles grass
Meadowlarks loudly sing

Heads of grass bowed
Heavy with seed
Honoring us as we pass

Shadows

Shadows (18-099D)

Quiet moment softness
Warmth settles on the bluffs
Morning light paints
Contrasting shades brown and green

Landscape of the heart
Joy and sorrows contrast
Trauma's shadow lingers
Cold chill in shadow places
