Passages

Passages

Huddled in the corner
  Scared of the dark

Jesus walks the hallways of our life
  He's light in dark passages

He knocks on the door
  Inviting you out

Corridor before you
  No longer walk alone

Rustling

Rustling

Rustle of leaves high above
blue gray curtain covers sky
cloaks sun
as rest in the hammock
gazing skyward
through canopy of green

Daughter leaves after
long weekend home
transitions again
as season rustles
thoughts drift
like cotton clouds

Transitions

Transitions (18-118Z)

Untangle roots
Earth soft in hand
Preparation for receiving
Raspberry bush

Slowly cover
What's uprooted
Soil embraces
Transplanted life

Thoroughly soak
Tendrils grab
Familiar earth
In new place

Phases

Suzie Q and Mattie
                Phases

Quietness with foal gone
Feed five flakes of hay to stallion
No commotion in the early morning moonlight
Barn silent as mare and foal leave empty space

Change of seasons accelerate
In one weekend three horses leave
Nine easy keepers left
Hush falls on property

Land notices the difference
No longer enough horses to keep fields down
Plump horses waddle
Angry they are locked out of fields during the day

Preparations for next phase of journey
As our nest becomes smaller
Soon another child stretches her wings
And just few more years with our youngest

Positioning and realigning
Our best days begin today
Today is the day of redemption
Now is the time to redeem

Pile of Shoes

        Pile of Shoes

A pile of shoes and boots

Lay in front of the door

With each passing year pile lessens

One out the nest, soon another

Pile of shoes reduced back down

To what it was when we first journeyed together

Two soles, two pairs of shoes with souls

Resting in a place we made home

A day will come when another family

Will call this farm home

Piles of shoes again will grow

Then wane in passing years

One Last Good Night

One Last Good Night

The last good night before everything changes,

Used to read you bed time stories,

Sing you a lullaby as rocked you to sleep.

Now you are all grown up and we can share joy and celebrate.

Can still be sad that one will be missing when say good night.

August 17, 2016, On last good night at home with son before going to college.
