Hardscrabble

     Hardscrabble

Eyes from past
Pierce from pictures
Black and white memories
Of time long ago

Hardscrabble images
Sad eyes of hope dashed
Angry eyes of control
Stare into my soul

Ill-fitting clothes
Hang upon skeleton frames
Lost eyes of children
Carrying weight not theirs

Repetition of generations
Whirlpool of cycles
Vortex perpetually repeats
Sins of fathers

Other images tell
Different stories
Solidness of character
Eyes of hope, orphans no more

Image of grandfather as a child and his family. His father died and the children ended up in an orphanage and torn apart. Impact of trauma that can be broken free from, new choices.
