Illinois

           Illinois

Boyhood home of Illinois
Contrasts starkly with edge of
Great American Desert
Now call home

Memories resuscitated with Cardinal's call
Vivid red set against
Deep green of
Large maple leaves

Childhood awakens
Faintest of memories
As experience anew
Small hometown not home anymore

Lush green Summer of Land of Lincoln
Contrasts crisp brown of home
As prairie of Nebraska wilts
Under brutal heat
