Two-gether

Two-gether

Along the path between us
bare feet hungerly grab
morning's slippery stones
unsteady as land each step

Daniel

Daniel (18-060Z)

Every time I hear
The song Daniel*
I remember the day on the tarmac
Waiting on the plane at Stapleton

The old headphones
Tethered to the seat
Engines rev up, brakes release
Galloping down the runway

On an adventure of a lifetime
Leaving everyone and everything behind
Soon enough half a world away
In the lush jungle of Papua

As gaze at the stars and unfamiliar constellations
Realize my love was waking
Surreal to be so far away
Ambivalence of being in two places at once

Memories play of 7600 miles away
The panhandle of Nebraska
While present in a highland valley
All unwrapped each time I hear Daniel*

*Elton John song

From an old fragment of thought I had written down years ago. The lyrics talk about Daniel on a plane; and I heard it while taking off from the old Stapleton airport.

Joy

Joy (18-012B)

pull you close
lead with right foot
step and pivot
lean in

joy to be close
learn and explore
learn new steps
enjoy the moment

eyes glitter
as we practice
feet and arms tangle
until move together

no music yet
just learning steps
something together
we enjoy

Stacks

             Stacks

Things collecting to take
in moving out that will need
daughter's stack
son's stack

Temporary nature of home
as they launch out
and just return to harbor
Of home between adventures

About this poem: Two of our children are headed to college away from home this Fall. Seasons of family changing as bless them on their adventure.

Joy of Curves

         Joy of Curves

Joy of curves
Ties my thoughts in knots
Straight lines are boring
Before you know it snoring
Curves are curious
Adventures around each bend
Beauty discovered on journey
Symmetrical loveliness each arc reflects

Loose in the Flow

Loose in the Flow

Let go of the dock,
All of the fear just blocks.
Let go and drift free,
Soak in all that see.

Loose in the flow,
Curiosity grows.
Loose to contort and bend,
Adventure to attend.

Rapids create adrenaline rush,
Meandering stretch quiet holy hush.
Rapids awaken soul,
Liberated from life's heavy toll.

Firmly in present,
Moment heaven sent.
