Blows

Blows

Corn stubble dances

  twirling, skipping high and low

Brown of last season's harvest

  debris rises high

Christmas tree size tumbleweeds

  tumble across our path

Marching East 'til captured

  on bumpers and barbed wire

Fine sandy loam clouds

  darken the sky

Peppering windows relentlessly

  skin exfoliated in its barrage

Sunrise

Sunrise

Golden light

 pierces dawn sky

Soft pink glaze

 paints the clouds

Bites

Bites

Coldness bites

  locks its jaw

Teeth pierce sharp

  crushing bone

Wind drives deep

  under layers of clothes

An unwelcomed guest

  reluctantly leaves

Warmth returns

Nebraska Calls

Nebraska Calls

Morning lilac skies remind me of joy

  before gray skies of December

Steal the memory of Spring

  footsteps leave frosty imprint

Chill silences song of meadowlark

  call of pheasant nested

Warmth drifts away in breeze

  bite of air redden cheeks

Grace Cleansing

Grace Cleansing

Father's cleansing grace

Breath of wind

Blows once again

Red hot coals

Thaws cold hearts

His touch frees

To live again

To hope again

New Year

2019 is a new year

  bend an ear to hear

With Him overcome fears

  He makes the path clear

A year when personal accusers are silenced. Thank you Jesus.

Psalm 143:12 "In your unfailing love, silence my enemies; destroy all my foes, for I am your servant." (NLV)

Tattered

Tattered

Frayed strands

blow in the wind

Tattered edges

unraveled tapestry

Flag flown

crusades fought

Some won

some lost

Carry banner

battle scars

Define who are

visible afar

Transitions

Threshold of solstice

 winter is here

Light short on this day

 passing through portal

Renewal in stillness

 growth reset

Embrace the seasons

 some shorter than others

Gestation time

 time to maturity varies

Child launches out

 season of family changes

Faces

Gray ice hangs low

Dampness weighs heavy

Silence lingers gently

Many faces of

Nebraska's winter

Tumbleweeds

Tumbleweeds

Sound of wind pushing

 trees sullenly sway

Gray skies of winter

 swirling spits of snow

Nebraska prairie brown

 tumbleweeds tumble

Stampeding above the grass

 'til gaggle gathers on fences

Darting across roads

 dodging traffic

Safely on their way

 Omaha bound

PEACE

Peace softly flows

 gathers in refreshing pools

Cool to the weary

 quenching to the thirsty

Cascading over stones

 soothes anxious thoughts

Glassy aqua reflects

 calming gateway to soul

18-350A

"He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters; He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake." Psalms 23:2-3 NASB

Joy

Joy

Drops of beauty

gather together

nourishing rivulets

Streams of gratitude

form internal river

banks overflow with joy

Glow

Glow

November's waning crescent moon

amber curve's glow
beckons me

Longing's primal howl rises

pulling up
memories of you

Retronasal Memories

Retronasal Memories

Gritty dust

tastes of memories

long ago

forgotten

Dregs of thought

familiar taste

potently fermented

violently surface
